To make the best use of the capabilities of a range extender, there are a few things to keep in mind:
• Do not place the range extender too far from the router (or modem router). It is important that the range extender can pick up a good signal to amplify. Tip: If you have a range extender out of the WLX-series you can use the LED-indicator to find the right location to boost your Wi-Fi signal. The LED indicates whether there is a good wireless signal at a particular location. Click here for more information about the placement of your range extender.
• Does your range extender have internal antennas? Keep that in mind. The antennas are located on one particular side of the product. If you have a range extender that plugs directly into the wall, connecting it upside down may have a negative effect on the signal quality. This is especially true if you use a plug socket close to the floor. By experimenting with the exact positioning after connecting, you may be able to improve the quality of the signal; sometimes turning the device a quarter turn is enough to improve the signal.
• Make sure that the devices (PC, laptop, tablet) you want to connect to your range extender are equipped with a wireless receiver. Particularly in the case of PCs this is not always built in. If you want to use optimal wireless speeds it is also important that your computer is not equipped with outdated wireless technology. You can easily upgrade your computer to a faster wireless technology using a Wi-Fi USB adapter.
